Rugby - Hosting of St. Mary’s College, Dublin

On Saturday 9th March Grosvenor welcomed teams from St. Mary’s College, Dublin to the school to face its Under 13 and Under 14 XVs as part of their tour of Northern Ireland.

Having emerged victorious in two matches against Wallace High School the previous day, St. Mary’s arrived with a large and talented squad from which to pick.

Despite Grosvenor having a number of players unavailable both of its teams performed admirably on the day.  At Under 13 level its team, coached by Mr Wilson, Mr Jackson and Mr Smyth, secured a convincing win by 40 points to 5, with tries coming from prop Jake Laverty (4), Number 8 Nathan Chan, centre Rory Elder and openside flanker Ben Davies.

In the Under 14 match, meanwhile, both teams contested the match in a competitive but healthy atmosphere before the visitors ran out winners by 20 points to 5, with flanker Ross Nelson scoring the home team’s try.

Both matches proved highly worthwhile, with all of Grosvenor’s players benefitting from facing such top-class opposition.  Many thanks to the visiting St. Mary’s players and coaches for making the trip to Belfast and providing such healthy competition.
