‘Milk It’ Ulster Schools’ Cross Country Championships 2016

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Dylan McBride, form one, who enjoyed outstanding success recently when he placed first in the Mini boys’ category at the ‘Milk It’ Ulster Schools’ Cross Country Championships, held at Mallusk playing fields on the afternoon of Wednesday 10th February.

Dylan, who competes at club level for Willowfield Harriers, competed the challenging course in an impressive 6 minutes and 30 seconds to finish a significant 6 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger and back up his victory in the ‘District ‘A’ Championships, held at Delamont Estate the previous week, with the province-wide title.

Dylan was ably supported in the event by team-mate Matthew Lusty who placed an impressive 15th overall, out of a total of 141 competitors, while in the Junior Boys’ category Joel Harrison, form three, finished 27th out of of 127 participants, in the Inter Boys’ race Aaron Harrison, form five, placed 22nd out of 110 entrants, and in the Senior Girls’ event Lois Hagen finished 11th out of 59 competitors.

Well done to Dylan on such an impressive victory at this hotly-contested event, as well as to the aforementioned GGS athletes who also recorded highly credible performances. In addition a huge amount of credit is extended to Grosvenor teachers Mr. Andrew Gibson and Mrs Karen Kirk, without whose dedication and expertise such success could never have been achieved.

Well done to Dylan and his team-mates once again and we now look forward, with anticipation, to seeing these impressive results transferred onto the track during the coming track and field season.
