Mourne Cup Final

Commiserations to Grosvenor’s Under 13 Cricket team which was defeated by R.B.A.I. in a low scoring final of the Mourne Cup in Wednesday 27th June.

Batting first on a slow outfield Grosvenor were left to rue missed opportunities and some loose batting as they fell to 24 all out; opener Stuart Nelson top-scoring with 7.

Defending such a small total Grosvenor were always going to find it tough in the field; yet a spirited display saw R.B.A.I. fall at one point to 5 for 5, with an unlikely victory for Grosvenor looking like an ever-increasing possibility.  Despite Grosvenor’s best efforts, however, R.B.A.I. soon steadied their innings to achieve victory by 4 wickets.  Standout performers amongst Grosvenor’s bowling attack included Craig Irvine (3 for 3), Stuart Nelson (1 for 9) and Cameron Knell (1 for 6).

Well done to Grosvenor’s entire squad of under 13 players and coaches on reaching the final of this prestigious competition, in which they ran the eventual winners close before eventually succumbing to defeat.

2012 has been another outstanding year for Grosvenor’s Cricket Club; we look forward to continued success in 2013.
