N.C.U. Under 17 Squad Selection

Congratulations to elite Grosvenor cricketers Stuart Nelson and Jos McConkey, each of whom were selected to represent The Northern Cricket Union’s (N.C.U.) Under 17 XI in the team’s victorious interprovincial series, held in the greater Dublin Area during July.

Having gained selection following a rigorous process, with trials held at the University of Ulster Jordanstown over the winter months as well as a couple of outdoor sessions staged at Waringstown Cricket Club in the spring, Stuart was delighted to be named captain, upon its announcement, of a squad which also featured his school teammate Jos.

The N.C.U’s series saw them firstly take on Leinster at ‘The Hills’ Cricket Club on 11th July, where Joss batted superbly to score 53 in a man-of-the-match performance, ably supported by Stuart with 11 not out with the bat as well as 1-16 with the ball. In the second and final match of the series, meanwhile, Stuart again bowled efficiently and economically to achieve bowling figures of 2-14 in a performance which saw the North West bowled out for 151, a total which the N.C.U. passed confortably with six wickets to spare.

In addition, the N.C.U. Under 17’s summer also saw them travel to London where their short tour saw them compete against St. Joseph’s College in a 50 over game, as well as a T20 tournament held at St. Alban’s Cricket Club; while Jos participated successfully in this trip Stuart, despite selection, was unable to travel due to prior commitments with the Ulster Schools' team, for which he had also gained selection.

Well done to both Stuart, Grosvenor’s current Head Boy, and Jos on their selection to this elite squad, which reflects the extremely high standard to which they have performed for both Grosvenor and their respective clubs in recent times.

All connected to Grosvenor now look forward to following the fortunes of both players as they continue their cricketing development over the coming season.
