Northern Ireland Open 2014

Congratulations to a number of the School’s talented fencers who performed with distinction at the Northern Ireland Open 2014, held at Avoniel Leisure Centre at the end of January.

The School was particularly well represented at this event, at which the standard was extremely high, with fencers from Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland and England all in attendance.

On the day Upper 6th pupil Stephen Brown was the School’s outstanding performer, achieving second place in the Men’s Foil category following a 14-7 defeat in the final against David Alexander, ranked 7th in Britain.  In addition Gareth Reid (Form Five) put in an impressive performance to reach the last eight of the same category whilst Jonathan Little (Form Three), GGS’s youngest fencer at the event, performed superbly to reach the last 16 in his first Senior competition – an achievement which also gained him a medal for the highest placed newcomer.

Well done to each of Grosvenor’s fencers who performed so well on the day and we wish them continued success throughout the remainder of the season.
