Northern Ireland Under 17 Footballing Selection

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Sasha Clare, Year Twelve, who was recently selected to represent the Northern Ireland Under 17 football team at the UEFA World Championship Elite Round, held in Portugal in March.

Sasha, who plays as a left back, was chosen for the squad based largely on her performances for the Linfield F.C. Under 17 and Under 19 teams, the latter of whom she played every minute of every match for during the 2018/19 season.

During Sasha’s ten day trip to Portugal, she took on the might France, Portugal and Spain and, although the team did not emerge victorious from the competition, it provided her with valuable experience that will serve her well as she moves forward with her footballing career.

Sasha’s involvement with the Northern Ireland Under 17 squad has been a huge part of her life over the past twelve months; earlier in the school year she travelled to Estonia to play for the team while, in an average week, she was required to attend four training sessions, all held at the University of Ulster Jordanstown, to prepare her as thoroughly as possible for the matches themselves.

Since travelling to Portugal Sasha has switched allegiances from Linfield to Crusaders F.C., in search of more regular senior opportunities, where she will be playing alongside Northern Ireland’s most capped player, centre back Julie Nelson.

Well done to Sasha on all of her achievements over the past season and we wish her the best of luck throughout the 2019/20 footballing season and beyond.
