Physics Trip - WISE Event at W5

On Thursday 12th November a number of Grosvenor’s Form Five GCSE Physics students, accompanied by Head of Physics Mrs Fiona Watt, were afforded the opportunity to attend the highly worthwhile ‘WISE’ event, held at W5.

'WISE' stands for Women In Science and Engineering and the event was run by Bombardier and hosted by W5 last week, with W5 staff running a workshop on the physics of flight and each of the speakers on the day being made up of female employees of Bombardier.

Over the course of the day the students present listened to a number of talks, during which they received information on how useful a job in engineering can be, especially for women; employment opportunities that are available to graduates in Chemical Engineering; apprenticeships on offer and the skills and qualities required to be successful in the field of Engineering.

The event proved highly worthwhile and, for all of Grosvenor’s attendees on the day, was extremely thought-provoking as they begin to tentatively consider future career pathways available to them.

Many thanks to Mrs Watt for organizing the trip and hopefully many of Grosvenor’s female Physicists will now be inspired to pursue a future in Engineering over the coming years.
