Rockport Netball Tournament

On Monday 12th May Grosvenor’s Form One and Minor ‘A’ Netball teams attended a tournament at Rockport School along with a range of other competing teams from various schools within the locality.

The Minor ‘As’ performed superbly to defeat Down High School 8-1 in their opening match, and were also impressive in defeating Sullivan Upper School 2-1 later in the day.  Of greater disappointment, however, was the team’s 8-1 defeat to St. Genevieve’s, a school they had drawn against in the Belfast League earlier in the season.

The Form One team, meanwhile, also performed well to defeat St. Genevieve’s ‘B’ and Rathmore by scores of 2-1 and 9-1 respectively.  Unfortunately, however, their final group match saw them narrowly lose out to Glenlola Collegiate by a score line of 4-3.

With both teams winning two out of their three group games they achieved qualification for the runners-up playoff later in the day, however these matches were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.  Nevertheless it was a successful day, on the whole, for both teams and they can take much encouragement from their performances throughout the year as they already begin to think of next season.
