Sainsbury’s 2014 School Games

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Fencing Club which achieved notable success at the recent Sainsbury’s School Games, held in Manchester from 4th – 7th September.

Amongst Grosvenor’s current School pupils, Lower 6th student Gareth Reid performed superbly to attain a silver medal in the Men’s Foil Team Category whilst Samuel Gourley, Upper 6th, achieved a bronze in the hotly-contested Men’s Epee Team competition.   In addition, Jake Wylie (Upper 6th) also competed with distinction as a member of the Northern Ireland Men’s Sabre team.

Perhaps the outstanding performer amongst Grosvenor Club members, however, was former GGS pupil Stephen Brown – a member of last year’s Upper 6th; as well as attaining a Silver medal as a member of the Men’s Foil Team, he also achieved distinction in the individual competition where he fenced his way to an impressive bronze medal – a superb achievement given the strength of the field on the day.

Well done to all of Grosvenor’s Fencers who participated with such distinction at the recent Games, and we wish them the best of luck in their various competitions throughout the remainder of the season.
