School Games 2018 selection

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupils Gareth Campbell, Andrew Hagen, Adam Sykes and Stephen Wright, each of whom were recently selected to represent Northern Ireland at the highly prestigious School Games National Finals, held at Loughborough University in September.

Middle distance athletes Gareth and Stephen, both Year Thirteen, attained their selection for this elite competition after achieving the fastest times in their age group in their respective events, of 1500 metres steeplechase and 800 metres respectively, in Ulster and Irish Schools’ athletics competition over the summer season, while sprinter Adam gained participation in the 200 metres event thanks to his performances in the Northern Ireland and Ulster Age Group Championships.

For hockey player Andrew, meanwhile, his participation was secured through his performances for the Ulster Under 18 team.

The 2018 School Games National Finals was a major multi-sport event, held for the most talented young athletes across the UK. This year’s event featured in excess of 1400 young athletes, competing across 11 sports. Now in its thirteenth year, the annual School Games prides itself on providing a fun, competitive and safe environment in which future sports stars can experience a large, multi-sport event.

Well done to all four members of Grosvenor’s ‘Fab Four’ on being chosen to compete at such a high level – we now wish them each the best of luck as they continue their sporting exploits over the remainder of the academic year.
