Senior Drama Production 2013: ‘Guys and Dolls’

The week beginning Monday 4th November saw Grosvenor Grammar School stage its annual Senior Drama Production, performing ‘Guys and Dolls’ to in excess of 1300 audience members over four captivating and absorbing performances.

Under the leadership of Director Miss Jenny McDowell and Musical Director Mr Jonathan Arnold this year’s cast and crew, comprising over eighty pupils in Forms 5 to Upper 6th, combined to deliver an energetic and engaging take on the play - based on a book by Joe Swerling and Abe Burrows with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser.

Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th November saw the cast deliver matinée performances to visiting pupils from local Primary Schools while on the evenings of Thursday 7th and Friday 8th the show was staged for members of the paying public.

The production saw a number of acclaimed performances delivered by lead actors Aaron Godfrey (Nathan Detroit), Caitlin Jamison (Miss Adelaide), Ross White (Sky Masterson), Jonathan Brown (Nicely Nicely), Simon Gibson (Arvide Abernathy), Nathan Kirk (Benny Southstreet), Katie Dougan (Sarah Brown) and Christina Cousins (Gen Cartwright). In addition the show was brought to life by a superb supporting cast, comprising over fifty pupils, as well as a talented band of musicians who delivered its popular score with aplomb throughout.

Following four accomplished, entertaining and compelling performances all in attendance were left impressed by the level of application and effort which enabled Grosvenor’s cast to produce such an outstanding series of shows.
