Schools' Cup Cricket Success

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s 1st XI cricket team which defeated R.B.A.I. in a close-fought encounter in the second round of the Ulster Bank Schools’ Cup on Wednesday 15th May.

Having restricted the visitors to 121 for 9 off their full thirty overs, with opener McGavock top scoring with an impressive 62 and Peter Davison the chief wicket taker with 2-30, Grosvenor set about achieving their target in assured fashion.

With sibling openers Mark Johnston (32) and Aaron Johnston (26) setting the perfect platform with a first wicket partnership of 70, Grosvenor looked set for certain victory until the fall of four wickets in as many overs put them under increased pressure.  Despite this wobble, however, middle order batsmen Carl Rae (15 not out) and Michael Young (27 not out) soon steadied the ship to ensure that their team achieved the required target with three-and-a-half overs and six wickets to spare.

Well done to all of Grosvenor’s performers on the day who contributed to this impressive victory, as well as their coaches Mr McCallan, Mr White and Mr Young whose coaching and investment of time has helped the team to sustained success over recent seasons.   Many thanks also to the players and coaches of R.B.A.I. who more than played their part in an extremely competitive encounter.

Grosvenor now wait with anticipation on the draw for the quarter-final of the competition, in which we wish them the best of luck.
