Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance Scholarship weekend

Congratulations to Grosvenor Year Nine pupil Katie Moore who was recently nominated to the prestigious Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance (SDTA) Scholarship weekend.

Katie’s invitation to this esteemed event came after she had taken dance and theory exams in Highland Dance in February 2017, gaining Honours in her theory application. Following this she was then nominated to attend the SDTA Scholarships in Motherwell, Scotland on the weekend of Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November.

On Saturday 11th Katie took part in a series of exams and judged dances; this included a written theory paper for an hour and a Dance Masterclass in the morning, followed by the ‘Tribute to JL Mackenzie’ dance and a solo choreography piece in the afternoon. In the evening all nominees and their guests then attended a banquet where Katie was awarded ‘Special Recognition’ for her theory exam.

On Sunday 12th, meanwhile, the nominees attended a ‘Day of Dance’ at which they were introduced to the 2018 Championship steps and developed their choreography skills.

Katie is a member of the ‘Michelle Johnston School of Highland Dance’ and, in all, there were seven dancers from the school nominated for the Scholarships. It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend that gave Katie and the other nominees the chance to make new friends, learn new dance skills and broaden their theory knowledge of highland dance.

Katie is now working towards the next level of her dance and theory exams – we wish her all the best with this, as well as any of her further dance endeavors, and hope to be reporting on even more of her successes over the years to come.
