Sixth Form Educational Studies Essay Competition

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Ross Neill, Lower 6th, who was recently announced as the winner of Stranmillis University’s inaugural Sixth Form Studies Essay Competition.

Ross, who was also awarded the ‘Most Promising Public Speaker’ award at the Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition in February, was encouraged to enter the competition by Grosvenor’s Head of English Mr David Kernohan and impressed the judges with his depth of insight, originality and quality of writing.

Ross worked diligently on his 2000 word essay in the weeks leading up to the March deadline for a competition in which all competitors were asked to discuss a quotation from famous Nobel Prize winning Irish poet W.B. Yeats; “Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire”.

Ross will officially receive his award at a prize giving ceremony at the College on 4th July – all at Grosvenor are extremely proud of his achievement and wish him well in his future literary endeavours.
