‘Soroptimist International Northern Ireland Public Speaking Competition’ 2015

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Hannah Martin, Lower Sixth, who enjoyed wonderful success by attaining victory in the Northern Ireland final of the 2015 ‘Soroptimist International Public Speaking Competition’, held at Hillsborough Castle on the afternoon of Saturday 7th February.

Having won the Belfast heat of the competition at Stormont in November, Hannah presented her prepared speech, entitled: 'Apprentice vs. Degree', as well as a second piece which she had to prepare on the day, titled: 'And then I realised what a golden opportunity...'.  Both of Hannah’s speeches mixed sophistication with liveliness to engage all present, receiving high praise from each member of the judges’ panel on the day.

Hannah’s prestigious victory saw her win £250 for herself as well as a £150 book voucher for the school.  In addition, Hannah will now receive the opportunity to present her speech to esteemed guests at the ‘Soroptimist International Conference’ at the Europa Hotel in March, while she will work closely with the charity organization and give speeches at various events which ‘Soroptimist International’ organise for young people throughout the year.

Well done to Hannah on her outstanding victory, which represents the first time in Grosvenor’s history that one of its pupils has achieved this illustrious award.  All within the school are immensely proud of Hannah’s incredible achievement and wish her the best of luck at the various Soroptimist-related events at which she will be speaking over the coming twelve months.
