Spanish and Art Trip to Barcelona

In the early hours of Monday 17th June a group of 40 pupils in Forms 2-4, alongside Mrs Salt, Miss Lee, Mr Smyth, Mrs Denvir-Watson and Mr Nelson, gathered at School before setting off for Belfast International Airport from where they embarked on the inter-departmental Spanish and Art trip to Barcelona.

Throughout the five day trip the pupils were treated to a packed programme of events.  From checking into the Best Hotel San Diego in Salou on the Monday evening to returning to Dublin on Friday 21st, the pupils were afforded a wide range of educational, worthwhile and enjoyable activities with which to engage.

Upon arrival on Monday afternoon the GGS contingent were treated to a cable car ride which took in the beautiful scenery of Mont Juic before participating in a tour of Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium as well as visits to its main street and Aquarium on the Tuesday.   Despite this busy start to the week the itinerary during the second half of the trip proved just as packed, with trips to Barcelona F.C’s world-famous Nou Camp stadium as well as the beach on Wednesday 19th followed by another to Port Aventura Theme Park on the Thursday prior to departure on Friday 21st.  With so much crammed in to just a few days the trip provided an invaluable opportunity for each pupil to broaden their horizons and develop their language skills in a fun and enjoyable environment.

Many thanks to each of the members of staff whose participation in and organisation of the trip made it possible.  Without a doubt each of the 40 participants benefited hugely from their involvement and will remember the week favourably for many years to come.
