Table Tennis Success Table Tennis success at Junior British League!

On Friday 9th February Grosvenor pupils James Magrath, Lucy Craig and Lucy Johnston headed off to Derby to participate in the second weekend of the Junior British League, an Under 18 table tennis event involving teams from all over the UK and Ireland.

The Ulster boys team - led by James, Year Thirteen, continued its fine form from the first weekend and went into the last match knowing that victory would secure the title. The team remained unbeaten over the two weekends and a draw in the final match resulted in them finishing as worthy runners-up, securing silver medals - only one point behind the winners. James Magrath led the team from the front throughout, securing a very impressive 17 wins from 20 matches and finishing as the top performing No.1 player in the division.

The Ulster girls team, meanwhile, was led by Lucy Craig, Year Twelve, with Lucy Johnston, Year Eleven, moving up to No.2 for the second weekend. Once again, the team performed superbly and, indeed, topped the division all weekend heading into the last match. The result of the last match could not have been much closer, with the girls losing by the narrowest of margins, meaning they ended in a very credible third place. Again the girls had the top performing No.1 player in Lucy Craig, who had an unblemished record - winning 20/20. Lucy Johnston also won important matches at No.2, to help keep the team in contention, and finished with a most commendable record of 10/20.

Overall the weekend was very successful, with great development in evidence from all of GGS's performing players - many congratulations to them, as well as their dedicated coaches, on this particular success and we look forward to following their fortunes closely at further events over the remainder of the season.
