Table Tennis Triumphs!

Congratulations to three of Grosvenor’s elite junior school table tennis players who are currently ranked number one in Ulster in their respective age categories.

At Under 15 boys level James Magrath, Form Three, has had an impressive season so far, starting the season at the Irish Classification with a fifth place finish before claiming fourth place at the Ulster Open and, most recently, making his way to the final of the ‘Connaught Junior Open’, coming away with the silver trophy.  Combining these results with a silver medal at the ‘Fermanagh Junior Open’, James now has an Ulster ranking of number one and an overall Irish ranking of number four.

Within the Under 15 girls category Emma Kee (Form Two) has also had an improving season despite stepping up an age group; her top result so far has been a silver medal at the ‘Fermanagh Junior Open’, narrowly losing out to the current Irish number two.  Having played all the aforementioned tournaments she has accumulated ranking points that now see her at the top of the Ulster rankings list.

Lucy Craig (Form Two) is the third pupil in Grosvenor to hold pole position in Ulster, this time in the Under 13 girls’ section.  In the Irish events she has taken a bronze in the Irish Classification, silver at the Ulster Open and fourth place at the ‘Connaught Junior Open’, giving her an Irish ranking of number three, while her gold in the ‘Fermanagh Junior Open’ reflected her clear lead within her age group at Ulster level.

Hot on the heels of Grosvenor’s triumphant triumvirate, however, is Form One pupil Lucy Johnston who has been at several tournaments throughout the season and currently lies third on the Ulster Under 13 rankings list.

Finally, not to be forgotten is Irish National Senior Table Tennis champion Emma Ludlow, Upper Sixth, who was also chosen to represent Northern Ireland at last summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and who has clearly inspired her younger Grosvenor colleagues through her many achievements over recent years.

Well done to all of the aforementioned pupils, each members of Glenburn Table Tennis Club, who are now hopeful of representing their school, club and province at the 2015 Inter-provincial Championships - we wish them the best of luck in their table tennis–related endeavours throughout the remainder of the season.
