'The Big Cook Off' 2019

On Monday 21st January Grosvenor pupils Grace Dugan and Ruth Martin, both Year Ten, represented the School with distinction as they competed in the regional final of prestigious culinary competition ‘The Big Cook Off’, held at Ashfield Boys’ High School. The girls were one of 37 pairs of finalists chosen from a total of 137 applicants.

For their involvement in the contest, Grace and Ruth were required to plan a meal for two people at a cost of no more than £5, using local ingredients; the scrumptious menu that they came up with was a twist on fish and chips with mushy peas.

On the day of the competition itself the girls were fantastic; they had diligently organised all their ingredients, along with a fantastic table for presentation. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the girls were narrowly pipped to first place by the winning team from St Louisa’s College – agonisingly losing out by a margin of just one point.  Despite their narrow defeat, Grosvenor’s Home Economics department is incredibly proud of their achievement and will now look forward to benefitting from more of their culinary flare in the future.

Many thanks to Grosvenor’s Head of Home Economics Mrs Kate Buchanan, who accompanied the girls on the day, and well done once again to Grace and Ruth – we look forward to following their culinary exploits further over the coming years.
