The Rotary Club of Belfast’s ‘Together Towards Improvement’ Initiative

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Cameron Hamilton, Lower Sixth, who was recently selected as one of just six pupils chosen to participate in The Rotary Club of Belfast’s ‘Together Towards Improvement’ initiative - which will see him travel to Chicago during the forthcoming Easter Holidays, participating in a trip which will focus on the theme of Conflict Resolution.

As part of the selection process Cameron, who was first made aware of the initiative by his Head of Year during a weekly Year Assembly, was first required to complete an application form detailing his interest in current affairs as well as his leadership and teamwork skills, along with a five hundred word personal statement explaining what he felt he could gain from the opportunity and what qualities he felt he could bring to the group.

Following this initial stage Cameron was shortlisted for interview, held at The Radisson Blu Hotel, where he was required to deliver a presentation, and respond to questions, on why he felt he should be selected for the trip; only following completion of this interview was Cameron informed of his success in being selected to participate in the programme.

The trip, which is being run by The Rotary Club of Belfast in partnership with The Rotary Club of Highland Park/Highwood in Chicago, aims to “create a better mutual understanding between different communities by studying Conflict Recolution”, and although Cameron is yet to be informed of the exact details regarding the trip’s itinerary, he has been told that it will “follow a social, educational and general study programme” and that “differences will be explored and celebrated.”

Well done to Cameron on his successful application for this prestigious and hugely worthwhile initiative; final selection for the programme is extremely difficult to achieve and it is testament to Cameron’s skills of preparation, persuasion and oration that he has been invited to participate within it.

All at Grosvenor are extremely proud of Cameron’s achievement and we look forward to hearing more information about the trip when he returns from Chicago later in the year.
