Ulster Closed Squash Championships 2018

Congratulations to Grosvenor Year Eight pupil Ben Watson who recently swapped his table tennis bat for his squash racket to compete in his first ever squash tournament – the Ulster Closed Squash Championships, held at the Boat Club in Belfast over the weekend of Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st January

Ben, who in November attained table tennis success by placing first in the Under 13 Boys event at the Ulster Open, held at Lisburn Racquets Club, entered the event to gain match experience and, over two tough days, competed in the Under 13 boys event. Participating in some very close games which could have gone either way, Ben held his nerve to finish in third place overall in the competition – an incredible feat given his relative lack of experience in the discipline.

Ben now hopes to build on this remarkable experience as he has been invited to join the weekly training sessions at the Boat Club; however, his next goal is to see if he can improve his Ulster table tennis ranking by competing in the Connacht Junior Open on 4th February in Castllebar, Mayo.

We wish Ben the best of luck with all of his table tennis and squash-related endeavours over the remainder of the season.
