Congratulations to Grosvenor’s talented Athletics team which secured a number of notable successes at the Ulster Schools’ Championships, held at the Antrim Forum on Saturday 19th May,

Within the girls’ team victories were achieved by the Senior 4x100 metre relay team (comprising Anna Lockhart, Nicole Muirhead, Naomi Campbell and Holly Dornan) which achieved first place in a scintillating time of 51.24 seconds, as well as Form One pupil Anna Stanfield who gained Gold in the Mini Long Jump with a leap of 4.25 metres.

On the boys’ side victory was secured in the Mini Long Jump by Nathan Chan, whose jump of 4.60 metres saw him achieve 1st place over, amongst others, fellow Grosvenor pupil Ben Stephenson, whose jump of 4.50 metres was enough to gain him bronze.

Elsewhere victory was also achieved by Robby Rankin in the Senior Boys’ 1500 metre Steeplechase (6 minutes, 34.75 seconds), while Matthew Hedley (Inter Boys’ Triple Jump: 12.43 metres), Andrew Wright (Inter Boys’ 800 metres:  2.00.1 minutes) Adam Wilson (Junior Boys’ 100 metres: 11.89 seconds) and the Senior Boys’ 4x100 metre relay team (45.32 seconds) each gained silver medals, and Matthew Allen’s throw of 33.25 metres was enough to gain him bronze in the Senior Boys’ Hammer.

Well done to all of the Grosvenor athletes, as well as their coaches - led on the girls' side by Mrs Karen Kirk and the boys' by Mr Andrew Gibson, who performed so admirably at the Antrim Forum on Saturday – many of them will now progress to compete at the Aviva Irish Schools’ Championships on Saturday 2nd June: we wish them the best of luck at this event.
