Ulster Schools’ Cross Country Championships 2014

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Andrew Wright who achieved a superb silver medal in the Senior Boys’ category at the Ulster Schools’ Cross Country Championships, held at Mallusk Playing Fields on the afternoon of Tuesday 11th February.

Following his convincing victory at the County Down District Championships at the end of January, Andrew ran superbly and was unfortunate to just miss out on gold following a sprint finish. Nevertheless Andrew’s display, on a particularly grueling course, was admirable and he should be extremely proud of his performance on the day.

Elsewhere third formers Aston Edmond and Aaron Harrison each put in terrific performances to place 8th and 9th respectively in a highly competitive Junior Boys’ race. So too Form One pupil Andrew Hagen was placed 46th out of 148 competitors in the Mini Boys’ event while, on the female side, Form Four pupil Sophie Rea finished in 43rd position in the Intermediate girls’ race and Katie Allen, Lower Sixth, was placed 32nd in the Senior Girls’ event. In the case of both girls, their performances were particularly notable given that they each have another year to compete within their respective age groups.

Well done to each of Grosvenor’s competitors who performed so well on the day and we wish the best of luck to Andrew, Aston and Aaron whose performances have gained them qualification to compete at the Irish Schools’ Championships, which will take place in Cork on Saturday 8th March.
