Ulster Schools’ Individual Table Tennis Championships 2019

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s talented table tennis players who enjoyed great success at the Ulster Schools’ Individual Table Tennis Championships, held in April at the Racquets Club in Lisburn.

Despite the incredibly high standard of table tennis in evidence at this competition, Grosvenor’s eighteen players represented the School superbly on the day, with victories from Lucy Johnston (Year 12) and Lucy Craig (Year 13), in the Girls’ Under 16 and Under 19 age groups respectively, proving the highlight of the day.

On the boys’ side, meanwhile, standout performances came from Ben Watson, Year Nine, who placed second in the Under 12 competition after a narrow defeat in a hard-fought final, as well as the School’s Head Boy James Magrath, who played brilliantly to reach the final of the Under 19 boys’ competition, where he again lost narrowly.

Elsewhere, notable performances were also recorded by Junior Close (Year 9), who placed first in the Under 12 boys’ consolation competition, defeating Daniel Campbell (Year 8) in the final, while Josh Corbett (Year 8) also performed admirably to finish in third place. In the under 12 girls’ competition, meanwhile, Liberty Molloy (Year 8) won the consolation competition with Abbie Woods (also Year 8) finishing as runner-up, while, in the under 14 boys’ competition, Aaron McDowell lost in the semi-finals of the consolation competition.

Well done to all of the above pupils for their impressive exploits on the day, as well as Grosvenor’s Teacher in Charge of Table Tennis Mrs Peel who accompanied them on the day and organised Grosvenor’s overall involvement at the competition.

We hope to hear of further table tennis-related successes again in the near future.
