Ulster Youth Training Choir Workshop and Auditions

On Monday 23rd January Grosvenor’s Music department welcomed Greg Hallam, Bass Coach and Associate Conductor of The Ulster Youth Training Choir, as well as Shane Farran, Manager of the UYC, to the school to conduct a workshop with members of its elite Chamber Choir.

Messrs Hallam and Farran provided the Choir with plenty of useful advice and were impressed by the high standard of musicianship that they witnessed throughout the day. As well as fresh ideas for choral warm-ups, the hour was mainly spent as a masterclass - tackling the technical demands of  'Be Still, My Soul', specially arranged for the Chamber Choir by Jonathan Rea.

Pupils also received the opportunity to audition for the Ulster Youth Choir and Ulster Youth Training Choir; while those who were awarded a place last year merely needed to register interest as their place is still available, new auditionees will now await the outcome of their rehearsal with much anticipation.

In all the afternoon proved extremely worthwhile, with all of the pupils in attendance learning plenty from the experience: many thanks to the Ulster Youth Choir for facilitating this opportunity and we look forward to following the fortunes of the School’s choristers over the remainder of the year.
