Ulster Youth Training Choir

On Monday 4th February Grosvenor welcomed Dominic Peckham, conductor of the Ulster Youth Training Choir and Kieran Scullion, Manager of the Ulster Youth Choir to the school to conduct a workshop with members of its Chamber Choir.

The event proved highly worthwhile and also served as perfect preparation for the Choir’s performance in the nationwide final of the BBC’s Songs of Praise Choir of the Year Competition next month.

Messrs Peckham and Scullion provided the Choir with plenty of useful advice and were impressed by the high standard of musicianship which they witnessed throughout the day.

The workshop also doubled up as an audition for the Youth Choir/ Youth Training Choir and as a result of the session Cameron Kirkpatrick (Upper 6th) was selected to join the Ulster Youth Choir while nine other pupils who are not yet eligible to join due to age (Mark Dawson, Mark Vincent, Matthew Hedley, Daniel Steele, Anna Cullen, Lindsay Herron, Zoe Harrison, Emma Wallace and Jenny Casement) were selected to participate as members of the Training Choir.

Well done to all of Grosvenor’s dedicated choristers and we wish them, along with their teachers Miss Foster and Mr Arnold, the best of luck at next month’s BBC recordings.
