Year Eight Ulster Team Track and Field Championships

Congratulations to Grosvenor's Form One girls' and boys' athletics teams, each of which performed commendably to place amongst the medal winners at the elite 'Year Eight Ulster Team Track and Field Championships', held at The Antrim Forum on Tursday 9th June.

In the girls’ event, the GGS team performed superbly to achieve third place overall, thanks to impressive performances from Sarah McCreery, who placed second in the High Jump with a height of 1.41 metres, Jenna Breen who finished 4th in the 100 metres, Leah Scates who also placed 4th, this time in the Long Jump with a distance of 3.98 metres, Grace Harrison and Dara McCracken who each finished in sixth place in the 800 metres and shot respectively, and the 4 x 100 metres relay team of Jenna Breen, Neve Armstrong, Sarah McCreery and Grace McKimm, which attained third place in a time of 56.5 seconds.

On the boys’ side, meanwhile, the team also performed extremely well to claim second place overall, with Dylan McBride the pick of the performers on the day, securing gold in a keenly contested 800 metres event. Elsewhere Robbie Dugan followed up his silver medal from the Ulster Schools’ Championships with another silver in the long jump, a feat emulated by Matthew Lusty in the 100 metres, while Adam Davidson and Shane Laverty were placed third in the high jump and shot respectively. Finally, the 4 x 100 metres relay team of Robbie Lemon, Matthew Lusty, Ben Johnston and Robbie Dugan also combined well to secure silver in the final event of the day.

Well done to both GGS teams, each of which fared extremely well to be amongst the medal winners at what was a hotly contested event featuring the cream of form one talent from across the province. As always, huge credit also goes to coaches Mrs Karen Kirk and Mr Andrew Gibson, without whose dedication and expertise the school’s athletes would not have been able to excel as they have done over recent seasons.

Well done to all involved and we look forward to celebrating further successes on the track and in the field again next season.
