Debating Society

The Grosvenor Debating Society runs during Senior Lunch in D101. It is for all pupils in Year 12-14.

Pupils decide on the motion each week and each team is made up of four members. We have debated a wide range of motions including:

•   Feminism is still necessary in the 21st century

•   The security of the state overrides the privacy of individuals

•   Free speech must be protected at all costs

•   The British Government was justified in its treatment of Shamina Begum

•   Security services personnel should be prosecuted for ‘Bloody Sunday’ deaths

For the second year, the school will also be competing in the Concern Debates Programme whereby we will debate against four local schools*. The debates provide pupils with an insight into the causes and effects of global humanitarian disasters, poverty and hunger and provide them with the opportunity to voice their opinions on how to tackle some of the tough challenges affecting the lives of millions of people in the developing world.
