Aims

Our aim is to enable pupils to become effective career decision makers, empowered to manage their own career development successfully.

There are 3 main areas to help achieve this:

  • Self-Awareness and Development – identifying and developing the skills and qualities needed.

  • Career Exploration – finding out about career opportunities.

  • Career Management – developing skills make suitable career development choices.

To meet this aim, we provide:

  • careers education – taught timetabled careers education provision

  • careers Information – access to up-to-date careers information, including user-friendly labour market information

  • careers Advice and Guidance – planned opportunities for individual and impartial careers advice and guidance from an experienced careers teacher or a careers adviser

  • Work-Related Learning – work experience, work shadowing, mock interviews and opportunities to meet employers

  • development of Employability Skills through Careers classes and in collaboration with other departments within the school

All pupils have the opportunity to attend lunchtime talks with visiting speakers about a variety of careers.

Key Stage 3

Pupils cover employability in LLW classes and attend a Careers event in Year 9. Year 10 have weekly Careers classes, a careers carousel with visiting speakers, and receive a lot of guidance when choosing their GCSEs.

Key Stage 4 & 5

Pupils attend a Careers Day in Year 11.

Year 12 have weekly Careers classes and receive a lot of guidance on options after GCSEs

Year 13 have a weekly Careers class, as well as many Careers-related elements as part of the Enrichment Programme. They have the opportunity to take 3 days work shadowing, and attend a Higher Level Apprenticeship event and a careers carousel.

Year 14 continue with weekly Careers classes, have a mock interview, and receive a lot of guidance on their options after leaving school.
