Athletics - World Relay Championships

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Head of LLW Mrs Kirk who recently attended the World Relay Championships in her capacity as Lead Coach for the Senior and Under 23 Ireland women’s 4 x 100 metres squads.

The event, held in Silesia, Poland, over the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May, saw the senior squad place tenth overall, despite being hit by injuries and unavailability. Despite missing out on a top eight position, which would have earned a place at the Tokyo Olympics, by a mere 0.3 seconds, the squad’s tenth place finish was enough to secure entry for next year’s World Championships, which are due to be held in Oregon, USA.

In the rarely run 4 x 200 metres event, meanwhile, the squad impressively finished in second place, giving them plenty of coverage in the media and a huge boost going forward into the summer season.

The above success was fitting reward for Mrs Kirk, who took on her Lead Coach position in 2019, having previously been Youth Coach since 2013 and Under 20 Lead Coach from 2015.

Mrs Kirk will next be heading to Bergen, Norway, in July, where she will hope to enjoy further success at the European Athletics Under 23 Championships – we wish her all the very best of luck at this event and beyond.
