Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year 2023
Congratulations to Harry Douglas, Year 13, who excelled himself by recently placing third in the prestigious ‘Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year’ competition 2023.
Flautist Harry began his campaign when he secured selection from over 25 initial entrants during the Heats stage, held in Holywood on Saturday 4th March. Following this, he participated as one of 12 finalists at Campbell College on Saturday 18th March, securing third place following an impressive performance of ‘In Ireland’ by Hamilton Hardy. The competition was adjudicated by esteemed musician and radio broadcaster Richard Yarr MBE.
Harry’s success comes a decade after his brother Andrew, a former Grosvenor pupil and current member of the Ulster Orchestra, gained first place in the same competition – musical talent clearly runs in the family!
In addition, Harry’s success comes during an academic year in which he travelled to London to play in the ‘Youth For Proms’ Concert, as a member of the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra, just before Christmas. Furthermore, Harry is also due to play as a member of the Ulster Youth Orchestra over the summer – at Dublin’s National Concert Hall, as well as the Ulster Hall, in August.
Well done to Harry on his continued musical excellence.
