Spring Concert 2024

On Wednesday 20th March Grosvenor’s esteemed Music Department staged its eagerly awaited Spring Concert in the William Moles Hall, as a wide selection of its talented pupils performed for a large and expectant audience of pupils, parents and associates of the school.

The event, always one of the highlights of the School calendar, saw over one hundred pupils from some sixteen different acts perform, with a number of contemporary compositions such as ‘A Million Dreams’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’ and ‘Dakota’ by Sterophonics proving especially popular, alongside some older classics such as ‘Be thou my vision’ and ‘Fly me to the moon’.

Grosvenor’s numerous musical groups are in constant demand throughout the year and Wednesday’s concert provided a unique opportunity to enjoy all of its talented musicians performing under one roof. In previous years the event has been notable for, in particular, its show-stopping finale and this year proved no different, with the Grosvenor Singers and Instrumentalists combining to deliver a jaw-dropping performance of a medley of songs from ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, featuring such classics as ‘Think of me’ and ‘All I ask of you’.

Elsewhere notable performances were delivered by, amongst others: the Chamber Choir; which performed traditional Chinese song ‘The Call of the Road’ as well as ‘O Magnesium Mysterium’ by Morton Lauridsen; the String Quintet, which provide a rendition of ‘Andante Festivo’ by Jean Sibelius; and the Jazz Band, which performed a quartet of numbers, including such classics as ‘Fly me to the moon’ and ‘Brown Eyed Girl’.

Congratulations to everybody who helped to make this year’s Musical Evening such an overwhelming success, including Senior Teacher Mr Alan Cowan, who served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening, keeping proceedings moving with aplomb throughout. In addition to the many pupils who participated on the night, particular praise is also reserved for Grosvenor’s phenomenally dedicated Head of Music Miss Rosemary Foster, along with fellow Music teacher Mr Jonathan Arnold, not to mention the many peripatetic teachers who have also contributed to the musical development of Grosvenor’s pupils throughout the year.

Well done to all involved in this year’s Spring Concert, which served as a perfect showcase for the considerable array of musical talent present within the School – we look forward to enjoying continued musical excellence within Grosvenor for many years to come.
