Table Tennis – North Ayrshire Open

Congratulations to the seven Grosvenor table tennis players who were selected to represent Ulster at the North Ayrshire Open 2024, held last weekend in Scotland.

Notable performances included those of Ben Watson, Year 14, who reached the semi-final of the Band 1 competition before losing out to the eventual winner. In addition, Ben performed commendably to reach the last 16 of the Open Men’s Event, where he met the No 1 seed and two times Commonwealth Games athlete Colin Dalgleish. Despite defeat, it was a great experience for Ben to play against such a formidable opponent.

Elsewhere Grosvenor pupils enjoyed further success, with Euan Hanna (Year 13, 1st in Band 3), Karsten Close (Year 8, 2nd in Under 13 Boys’) and Junior Close (Year 14, 2nd in Band 2) all achieving podium finishes.

In addition, Matthew Bailie (Year 8, Under 13), Melissa Johnston (Year 12, Under 19) and Lily Parke, (Year 11, Under 19) also performed commendably to reach the quarter finals of their respective competitions.
