Overview
Boys Hockey in Grosvenor has grown significantly in the last decade, most notably in the number of boys participating at every level; we now have a 1st XI, 2nd XI, u15 XI, u14 XI, u13 XI and an u12 XI competing in all of the major Ulster Hockey Schoolboy Competitions.
Each team enjoys two training sessions per week as well as fixtures each Saturday morning. The staff involved are committed and are ably supported by outside coaches, most of whom played for the School themselves.
The primary aim of the hockey is to encourage participation and a desire to represent the School, whilst also encouraging the boys to join clubs and ‘double play’ where possible. Recently we have seen a shift towards more players representing clubs at the highest levels of Ulster Hockey as well as boys playing at all other levels throughout local clubs. We have traditionally encouraged boys into local clubs; Annadale Hockey Club (who train at Grosvenor), Northern Ireland Civil Service Hockey Club, North Down Hockey Club and Belfast Harlequins Hockey Club.
