Congratulations to Grosvenor’s talented choralist Amy Patton, Year 11, who was recently shortlisted for the heats stage of the prestigious ‘BBC Northern Ireland School Soloist of the Year 2021’ competition, for which she auditioned online.

For her audition, Amy recorded performances of ‘Reflection’, from Walt Disney’s film ‘Mulan’, composed by Matthew Wilder/ David Zipple, as well as ‘Fisherman’s Night Song’, an Irish folk song with words by L.A.G. Strong.

For the next stage of the competition, Amy hopes to perform ‘Tightrope’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’, by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and ‘Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go’, with words and music by the McPeake family.

At present it is unclear when exactly the heats of the contest will take place, but Amy’s selection for this stage, despite a plethora of accomplished rival entries, is highly impressive.

Amy’s success comes after she was selected to attend an online training course with the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland’s Junior Choir, held at the end of October 2020. In addition, Amy also performed as part of a recent online audition for the ‘National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland’s’ summer course, due to take place in July, which she is hopeful of being selected for.

Amy’s latest success is testament to her talent and continued excellence, as well as the outstanding nurturing that she continues to receive within Grosvenor’s music department, led impressively by the dedicated Miss Foster.

Well done, Amy, and we look forward to following your fortunes in the next round of the competition, whenever it is safe for it to proceed.
