Boys Hockey Success

Congratulations to a number of the boys hockey teams who have enjoyed success recently in various cup competitions.

Burney Plate

The 1st XI survived a strong fightback from Portadown College in the semi-final of the Burney Plate. The boys were leading 2-0 at half time and were looking comfortable following goals from Harry McMullan and Alfie Stone. Portadown started strongly in the second half and were quickly level at 2-2. The result could have gone either way in the final quarter but it ended 2-2 and penalty run ins were to decide the winner. We scored all our penalties and Callum Wilson (Year 11) was the hero in nets with some fine saves. The 1st XI now progress to the Burney Plate Final on Tuesday 19th March at Havelock Park, Banbridge against either Methodist College, Belfast or Ballyclare High School.

Richardson Plate

The u15s travelled to Campbell College, Belfast in the Richardson Plate. A closely contested match ended 0-0 with the tie having to be settled with run ins. There were goals and misses from both teams but, again, Callum Wilson showed his skills as a goalkeeper and was the hero once again to seal the win, much to the delight of the boys!

Bannister Plate

The u13s hosted Banbridge Academy in the Last 16 of the Bannister Plate. The game ended 2-2 with goals from Tom McMullan and Joseph Barr and had to be decided yet again on run ins! The hero this time was Reuben Officer (Year 9) who made the vital saves to see GGS enjoy a monumental victory against the might of Banbridge Academy!
