District Schools’ ‘A’ Track and Field Championships 2022 - Mini, Minor and Junior age groups
Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Mini, Minor and Junior athletics teams, each of which enjoyed success at the District Schools’ ‘A’ Track and Field Championships, held at the Mary Peters Track on Thursday 5th May.
Amongst a number of outstanding performances on the day were those of Martha Orr and Nina Laing, both Year Ten, with Martha securing first place in the Minor Girls’ 200 metres event, in a time of 26.9 seconds, before placing second in the 100 metres (13.3 seconds), and Nina claiming first place in the long jump with an impressive distance of 4.80 metres. Not content with their individual medal hauls, the girls then combined successfully with Kitty Jordan and Paige Stewart to claim silver in the 4 x 100 metres relay; collectively completing one lap of the track in 54.60 seconds.
Elsewhere, silver medals were also secured by Igor Kaczmarek (Mini Boys’ Shot, 8.16 metres), Noah Harper (Minor Boys’ 800 metres, 2 minutes 19.10 seconds), Lewis Smith (Minor Boys’ Shot, 9.23 metres) and Jason Catherwood (Junior Boys’ Long Jump, 5.05 metres), as well as the Minor Boys’ 4 x 100 metres relay team, comprising Harrison Finlay, Dylan McCabe, Nikolas Laolas and Ben Sykes, in a time of 52.6 seconds.
Completing the GGS medal collection on the day were Emily Park (Minor Girls’ 100 metres, 14.4 seconds), Shauna Schutte (Mini Girls’ Shot, 6. 44 metres), Molly Foreman (Minor Girls’ Shot, 7. 95 metres), Katie Parker (Junior Girls’ Javelin, 21.50 metres), Sam Ferguson (Mini Boys’ 800 metres, 2 minutes 38.28 seconds), Ben Sykes (Minor Boys’ 100 metres, 12.4 seconds) and Rory Hobbs (Junior Boys’ 200 metres, 25.5s), each of whom claimed bronze medals in their respective events.
Well done to all of the aforementioned athletes on their impressive performances; with sixteen qualifiers for the Ulster Schools’ Championships, due to be held on Saturday 21st May, the School will hope for further cause for celebration later in the month.
