Table Tennis – Ulster Schools’ Individual Championships 2022

Congratulations to Ben Watson, Year 12, who secured an impressive silver medal in the Under 16 Boys’ age group at the Ulster Schools’ Individual Table Tennis Championships, held at Lisburn Racquets Club on Wednesday 4th May.

Ben, the 4th seed, performed superbly throughout the day to win all three of his group stage matches, as well as his three round-robin encounters in the next round of the competition. Following this, he then lined up against close rival and number 1 seed Tom Irwin, with the two protagonists paying out a superb, high-standard contest which Ben unfortunately lost by the narrowest of margins – three sets to two.

In addition, fellow Grosvenor pupils Junior Close, also Year Twelve, and Euan Hanna, Year Eleven, deserve praise for their performances in the same category, with both players also making it to the round-robin stage and, eventually, sharing the bronze medal.

Once again, Grosvenor’s strength-in depth was in evidence on the day as a further twelve competitors made it to the quarter final stage, or better, in their respective categories.

Well done to Ben, Euan, Junior and all of the Grosvenor competitors who represented the School so proudly on the day.

Year12 pupil Ben Watson, whio placed second in the Under 16 Boys’ category.
