The week of Saturday 31st August to Saturday 5th September 2019 saw some eighteen pupils from throughout the School, accompanied by staff members Mrs Dorman, Mr Cowan and Miss Elwood, commence the academic year by participating in its annual exchange with long-established German partner School, ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ in Lippstadt.

During the course of the week the Grosvenor contingent, who were each hosted by separate German families for the duration of their stay, were afforded the opportunity to participate in a plethora of worthwhile activities, such as: a tour of Lippstadt along with a visit to Kletterpark Climbing Park on Monday 2nd, a day trip to Dortmund to visit the renowned Borussia Dortmund stadium on Tuesday 3rd, a barbeque for the entire group on Wednesday 4th, and a trip to Phantasialand Theme Park in Brühl, near Cologne, on Thursday 5th .

Each year the German Exchange between Grosvenor and ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ which is, incredibly, now in its twenty-second year, proves highly popular and provides an excellent opportunity for Grosvenor’s German students to improve their language skills in a real-life environment.

Many thanks to Mrs Dorman who not only participated in this year’s trip but also puts a huge deal of effort into diligently organising it year-upon-year, as well as Mr Cowan and Miss Elwood, without whose attendance the trip would not have been able to run.

The second leg of the German Exchange will take place in March 2020, when pupils from Evangelisches Gymnasium are scheduled to visit Northern Ireland to be hosted by the families of those Grosvenor pupils participating in the exchange – we look forward to welcoming our German partners to the School during this week and to continuing the successful and long-established link between the two Schools.
