Year 14 Leavers’ Celebrations 2021
On Friday 30th April Grosvenor bade an emotional farewell to its fantastic Year Fourteen pupils at the end of a week which saw the School stage a number of events to mark the end of their seven years at the School.
On Tuesday 27th April all 147 members of the year group congregated, socially distanced, outside on the rugby pitches for the annual year group and Prefect photographs, albeit the first to ever be taken outdoors, to provide an official visual record of what has been a fantastic year group. Following this, pupils were then granted an extended lunch during which they had the chance to devour the impressive produce provided by outside caterers ‘Foodie Folk’, whose outdoor food outlet proved the star attraction on the day!
On Friday 30th April, meanwhile, the School marked the pupils’ final day with a number of exciting events as they were given the chance to change into fancy dress before participating in a series of Covid-safe activities such as tug-of-war, relay races, football rounders and the most popular event of all, line dancing! Additionally, as well as conducting regular trips to a visiting ice cream van, pupils were given the chance to have their photographs taken, again socially distanced, alongside a ‘GGS Leavers’ banner, kindly donated by ‘Ulster Exhibitions Limited’, which was displayed beside the astroturf pitches and provided a superb focal point for the day.
Following the culmination of these outdoor activities, pupils then returned to full school uniform and headed to classrooms where they were entertained by the impressive ‘Year 14 Leavers’’ video. Expertly put together by Head of Senior School Mr Young, it featured a selection of photographs from throughout the past seven years alongside heartfelt video messages from a plethora of staff members, who took the opportunity to bid a final farewell to the pupils who have sat in their classes over the past seven years.
With the majority of the pupils having entered Grosvenor in September 2014, a common theme of the final week was ‘where has the time gone?’. During the intervening time period, pupils in the year group have starred on the sports field, shone on the stage, amazed in the musical arena and, most importantly, excelled in the classroom. While they will continue to be valued members of the wider Grosvenor community, however, they can be justifiably proud of the contributions that they have made to the more recent history of the School over the past seven memorable and eventful years.
