Highland Dancing - SDTA UK & European Scholarships

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Katie Moore, Year 13, who recently enjoyed success at the SDTA (Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance) UK & European Scholarships and in her Associate Examinations in Scotland.

During the weekend of Friday 12th – Sunday 14th November, Katie travelled initially to Motherwell, where she attended the Scholarships, before travelling to Glasgow where she sat her Associate Examination.

Katie performed superbly, securing fourth place in the Written Paper section of the weekend and also dancing her solo choreography piece beautifully. Katie had a fantastic time, performing to a superb standard and also making friends with the many Scottish dancers in attendance.

On the Sunday, a nervous Katie travelled to Glasgow city centre where she undertook her Associate Examination, in which she received a ‘Pass with Distinction’. In addition to the adjudicator’s comments on each element of the examination, her general remarks noted: “A delightful candidate with well-prepared work”, which meant as much to Katie as passing the exam itself as it acknowledged the huge amount of work she had tirelessly undertaken in preparation for it.

Katie was joined throughout the weekend by Leah McIlwrath, also Year 13, who also passed her Associate Examination with Distinction and about whom more can be read in a separate article within the ‘School News’ section of the website.

Well done to both Katie and Leah on their respective successes – it has made the months of hard work: balancing school work, school revision and study, dance theory, dance class, and private dance lessons, worthwhile.

We look forward to following both girls further in their respective dancing-related endeavours.
