Congratulations to Grosvenor Grammar School hockey player Matthew Vincent, Year Fourteen, who recently represented the Ulster Under 18 XI in a series of four interprovincial matches against Leinster and Munster, played locally at Stormont.

Matthew’s involvement at interprovincial level began when he was selected onto the Under 15 Development Academy in 2015, before gaining selection onto the Under 16 team in 2017. Following this, Matthew was chosen for the Ulster Under 18 panel, in November 2018, which saw him train twice a week and participate in a number of mini tours, with matches against the likes of Leinster, Canada and England.

In July 2019, meanwhile, Matthew was selected to play in the prestigious Home Nations tournament - in Lilleshall, England; playing against high-quality opposition in the form of England and Scotland. This was followed by selection, in July 2019, for the aforementioned Interprovincial series, which saw him train at least twice a week in the build-up to the event.

In addition to Matthew’s representative achievements, he has been a star performer for Grosvenor teams throughout the past six years, while he currently plays his club hockey for N.I. Civil Service Men’s First XI, which requires him to train a further two nights a week as well as play matches each Saturday afternoon.

Well done to Matthew, as well as his coaches Mr Johnny Young and Mr Diarmuid Brittain, on his outstanding series of achievements over recent years; hopefully he will take his best form into the rest of what promises to be an exciting season for the GGS First XI.
