C.B.Y.O. - Stephen Parker Memorial Award
Congratulations to Year 14 musician Harry Douglas who was recently honoured as recipient of the prestigious Stephen Parker Memorial Award at the EA City of Belfast School of Music Youth Orchestra’s (CBYO) Summer Concert, held at the Ulster Hall.
This particular accolade is the top award presented annually by the CBYO. In awarding the prize to flautist Harry, its conductor, Mr Paul McBride, recognised him as an exemplary role model for other members of the Orchestra, acknowledged his impeccable, “can-do” attitude, his “ability to produce musical excellence” and his “enviable” talent and humility.
In addition, Harry was also the recipient of the Sir George Quigley Award on the night. This prize is awarded annually to the section of the CBYO which stands out in terms of progress made and, as a team, has demonstrated an exceptional collaborative effort. This year it was awarded to the flute section, with Harry, as Principal Flutist, deservedly collecting the award.
Well done to Harry on these two most impressive achievements – they mark the perfect way for him to round off his seven years at Grosvenor. During this time he has demonstrated consistent musical excellence, participating in trips to the likes of London and France, enjoying success in many musical competitions and festivals, taking receipt of the inaugural Lee Family Bursary, and representing the School with distinction at its various concerts and functions.
After seven years of excellence, we wish Harry the very best of luck with his continued musical endeavours beyond Grosvenor.
