Ronnie Smyth BEM

We extend our sympathy to the Smyth family on the passing of Ronnie Smyth BEM.

In hearing that we were struggling for coaches at GGS a few years ago, Ronnie seized the initiative and got in touch to offer his services. He faithfully turned up to coach all age groups, encouraging boys of all abilities and enhancing their understanding of the game. His enthusiasm was infectious and boys listened to him attentively, soaking up his wisdom at every opportunity. It was such a privilege to have a giant of Ulster Hockey amongst the boys and coaches and everyone looks back with such fond memories of Ronnie. Whether it was him bellowing instructions from the sidelines or taking boys aside to give them one-to-one guidance, everyone benefited enormously from Ronnie’s presence at GGS. He encouraged everyone and made every player reach heights they didn’t think imaginable. Even when Ronnie was unable to be with us physically in more recent years, he remained interested in the results and never failed to offer words of inspiration when he could.

We shared many laughs with Ronnie, enjoyed listening to his guidance and look back with a deep sense of gratitude that we were a small part of his amazing life. He was faithful, inspiring and so warm in his encouragement. His time with us at GGS was relatively brief, but his legacy will last for years to come.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the entire family circle at this time.
