Overview
The English Department seeks to encourage a love of reading, an enthusiasm for writing and confidence in speaking and listening activities in all of our pupils.
Aims
To meet the statutory requirements of the Northern Ireland Curriculum (NIC) in such a way as to reflect the basic principles of English teaching: heuristic, recursive and holistic.
To develop our pupils as individuals, contributors to society and as contributors to the economy and the environment
To make a major contribution to the cross-curricular skill of communication and help promote literacy throughout the school
To prepare our pupils for academic courses at GCSE and A level
To contribute to the fulfilment of the school aims
To provide a combination of traditional and radical teaching styles to meet the needs of, individual pupils
To allow and encourage pupils to maximise, and in cases exceed, their individual potential
To make the experience of Literature and Language enjoyable and meaningful for all the pupils in the school
