Overview

The Geography Department ethos is to provide a secure, stimulating and purposeful learning community where each member is valued and encouraged to develop self-confidence, self-esteem and a commitment to learning.

Aims

  • To use Geography as a context in which to develop lively enquiring minds, capable of independent and imaginative thought and of enjoying the learning experience.

  • Develop pupils as contributors to society by making them aware of values and lifestyles that are different from their own and helping them make reasoned judgements in relation to a wide range of issues.

  • Develop pupils as contributors to the economy and environment by helping them gain an awareness of our place in a changing local and global economy; challenging them to explore the consequences of our interactions with the environment. Making them aware of the need for change to be sustainable and the importance of thinking globally, acting locally.

  • Understand the interdependence of society, the economy and the environment by developing respect for the needs of both present and future generations; demonstrate how action can help improve the quality of life for people locally and globally.  Balancing the needs of society, economy and environment.

  • To provide adequate opportunities for pupils to fulfil their academic potential in external examinations (GCSE, GCE), thereby preparing them for Further and/or Higher Education.
