Staff
Head of Department:

Departmental Staff:

Overview
In spite of a nationwide decline in the numbers of pupils studying German, we are pleased to report that the subject is very much alive and well at Grosvenor Grammar School!
All pupils start learning German in Year 9 and can then continue with it right up to Year 14. Uptake at GCSE and A-Level at Grosvenor is amongst the highest in the Province.
As well maintaining a traditional approach towards the teaching of grammar, the German department has also embraced new technologies. Teaching in all German classes is delivered predominantly by means of the interactive whiteboard and pupils can access an extensive range of online learning resources via Google Classroom.
The Grosvenor German Exchange has been running for almost 20 years. Each year we take a group of Grosvenor pupils to Lippstadt in Nordrhein-Westfalen for a week in September, then in March the German school bring a party to visit us in Belfast.

Within the department the focus is upon encouraging pupil’s independent language skills within the classroom and providing opportunities for “real world” language learning.
