All-Ireland Secondary Schools’ Team Table Tennis Finals
Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Under 19 Boys’ and Girls’ Table Tennis Teams, each of whom performed superbly to achieve victory at the All-Ireland Secondary Schools’ Team Table Tennis Finals, held at the National Indoor Arena, Dublin, on Thursday 27th April.
In the Under 19 Girls’ category, Grosvenor’s team of Melissa Johnston, Lily Parke, Naomi Humes, Emma Mackey, Amelia Jankowska and Sadhika Maharana faced St. Tiernan’s CS, from Leinster, in a straight final. Here, the girls won the singles matches 5-1 and followed this up by winning the three doubles matches in an excellent performance, securing an overwhelming victory which saw them claim the Irish title to get the day off to the perfect start.
In the Under 19 Boys’ competition, meanwhile, Grosvenor’s team of Ben Watson, Junior Close, Euan Hanna, Reece Towe, Adam Cheung and Stanley Rintoul defeated Balla Secondary School, Connacht Champions, before achieving victory over the Leinster Champions in the final, by 7 games to 2, to emulate the earlier achievement of their female counterparts.
As well as Grosvenor’s two victorious teams on the day, its Under 15 Boys’ Team, comprising Thomas Norman, Alfie Stone, Jack Bailie, Daniel Campbell, Josh Corbett and Reuben Hall, is also deserving of praise. After suffering defeat against a strong Kinsale C.S. side, from Munster, the boys dug deep to secure victory in the third/ fourth place match, over St. Coleman’s College, from Connacht, to secure the bronze medal – another impressive achievement.
Well done to Grosvenor’s Table Tennis Club which continues to go from strength to strength. For the second year in a row, the school has secured multiple titles at Irish level, reflecting the outstanding talent present within the School, as well as the commendable dedication of its coaches.
We look forward to, hopefully, celebrating further success again next season.
