The evening of Tuesday 17th December saw the Grosvenor community past and present fill the wonderful setting of St Anne’s Cathedral for its annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.

As always those present were treated to a selection of outstanding performances from the School’s talented choristers. There were renditions of such festive favourites as ‘O Holy Night’, featuring soloist Beth Vance, as well as, amongst others: ‘Candlelight Carol’; ‘Away in a Manger’, with solos from Tyler Smith, Daniel Stewart and Stephen Wright; ‘The Angel Gabriel’, with a solo provided by Daniel Stewart; ‘Sing a New Noel’ and ‘Tomorrow Shall be my dancing day’.

The music provided by the Choir, conducted by Head of Music Miss Rosemary Foster and accompanied by fellow Music teacher Mr Jonathan Arnold, provided the perfect backdrop to an enjoyable evening of worship which also saw pupils in years eight - twelve, as well as Head Girl Ruth Sellar, Head Boy Andrew Hagen and the School’s Principal Dr. Frances Vasey deliver the Nine Lessons telling of Jesus’ birth.  The lovely atmosphere continued, following the conclusion of the Service, as everyone enjoyed mince pies, shortbread and mulled wine at the rear of the Cathedral.

The Carol Service also heralded the beginning of Grosvenor’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations which involve a number of planned events from February to April 2020; the School extends a warm welcome to join it at any of these events.

The School's Carol Service is undoubtedly the highlight of an extremely busy festive season for its much in-demand Music department - congratulations to everybody who helped to make Tuesday’s event such a memorable, entertaining and festive occasion; hopefully it marks just the beginning of an enjoyable pre-Christmas period for all within the School.
