Hillsborough Castle Coronation Garden Party for King Charles III

Wednesday 24th May was a day to remember for Year 11 pupil Katie Parker, who, in her role as His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant Cadet for County Down, played a significant role in welcoming King Charles III and Queen Camilla to a garden party at Hillsborough Castle.

Katie was appointed to her position in March and is one of twelve Cadets appointed across Northern Ireland. She was selected following a nomination from her Detachment Commander at Ballygowan and Carryduff Cadets, where she has been a member since Janaury 2020. Her appointment was timely as it came just two months before the Coronation itself and, with it, King Charles’ visit to the province.

Katie’s prestigious position has also seen her attend a number of other important engagements in the lead-up to the Coronation, including a 21-gun salute, also held at Hillsborough Castle, on 6th May, as well as a Coronation Tattoo, held in Kilkeel, the following week.

Well done to Katie on such a prestigious accolade – it has provided her with a once-in-a-lifetime experience that she will never forget.
